'You cannot rule over me girl, we are friends but then I'm not your mate. Who do you think you are?' Quincy retorted angrily fuming and barking like a wounded dog.
It is such a funny life. The suddenness with which life takes swift turns and negotiates bends will continue to baffle me.
Just yesterday Stephanie and Quincy were awwing and goshing into the camera about their friendship of years. Friendship that had survived turbulent winds of problem, anger, disappointments, disagreements and several tugs of wars.
Who could have thought that these two best friends will be at cold war today, tearing at each other’s throat violently? A cold war gradually evolving into a battle of words cum world war 3. Uttering the most despicable words. How did they get there?
One word people, one word. Pride. Ever been in those kinds of relationships and friendships you feel is unending? The kind you can swear with your life is inseparable?
I have always been an advocate of dialogue. No matter the gravity of the situation at hand, I always look at the bright side believing if two sensible and mature adults put their pride away and settle down to a one on one colloquy, they will definitely get to a reasonable agreement. All grievances could be amicably sorted out.
Just what if pride blinds us to the fact that we did wrong? Would you earnestly apologise if you were sure you weren't wrong?
'Be the bigger person' they keep preaching.
Nothing in my opinion kills or terminates relationships like pride. Refusal to say you are sorry because you feel you did not err.
Case scenario; you did something or said something to a friend thinking in your mind it was on a lighter note but your friend on the other hand takes offense at your action or words, the courteous thing to do is apologise. You cannot detect how your actions affects another person. They alone can tell if they were hurt or not.
Friendship should be loving, caring, involving, and strong enough yet giving each party a wiggle room to express themselves and a right to their own feelings.
If you can’t be yourself in any friendship, it is time you re-evaluated.
Quincy and Stephanie were never the same again. No. this time no patching was gonna heal the duo. It was time to kiss goodbye.
@PENNITT

Educating, thanks for this piece, I totally agree with you.

DeletePride has been the main problem in every relationship. The man ego and the woman's pride. The man saying "why should I be the one to ask for forgiveness am the man she is weak as such she will come back to beg me." To me pride is no love and love is no pride. One that has pride has no business being in a relationship. Just my humble opinion. Great Piece Gloriaearrrrt.
ReplyDeleteI think pride can be work on.some people do it unknowingly.
DeleteThanks a lot Dearek and Kufre.

ReplyDelete"Advocate of Good Dialogue" my dear. I use to have a friend that if there is a qualms amidst anyone in our team, he takes it upon himself to call the two grieving parties and put them both in the same room, begins the reconciliation process and then takes excuse to get sumtin and walks away, closing the door behind him leaving the two parties to settle amidst themselves. He wont come in back till both parties have come into a reasonable conclusion and peace. He has done this to me... lol
ReplyDeleteThank God the parties involved didn't fight and kill themselves in the locked room o

DeleteKeep the good work dear. God bless you richly. I love this.
ReplyDeleteBless you more Uwem
DeletePride and ignorance have always been detrimental to human existence on any level. Pride, you never see your error and when you don't won't bend to say sorry.
ReplyDeleteAnd we often times insist on seeing our errors before we apologise
DeletePride:it leads to a crash. It crashes the proud and it crashes relationships
